Ant-hill research at Aston Rowant NNR, plus surveys at five chalk grassland sites and five sites in acid Grassland in the Gower peninsula.
Seed germination – discovery of R/FR light requirement in three species.
Forest dynamics at Mountain Lake Experimental Station, University of Virginia, USA in a long-term project (1982, 1984, 1990, 1998, 2004, 2006), supported by a Postdoctoral Fellowship for Summer Research (University of Virginia), a British Ecological Society Travelling Fellowship and a Royal Society Travel Research Grant.
